We had a great time this week learning about Ancient Greek sport. Because of this, we wondered if we were fit enough to take part in their sports. As a class we conducted an experiment, took measurements and recorded our results in a table and bar chart.

Our method:

First we took our resting heart rate. We then had 2 minutes of intense exercise  (jumping on the spot), and measured our heart rate immediately after. With 2 minute intervals of resting, we  repeated our heart rate measurements and stopped after 10 minutes.

To conclude:

Through our results, we discovered that there are varying levels of fitness in our class. Fitness is measured by resting heart rate returning to normal within 2 minutes of intensive exercise. If our heart rate returned to normal after 2 minutes, then we were classed as fit enough for the games. If it took us longer than this, we found out that we needed to increase our fitness levels by regularly exercising.

We had great fun during this experiment and it taught us about the importance of exercising regularly.
