Comprehension
Let's develop our inferencing skills -
Making an inference involves using what you know to make a guess about what you don't know or reading between the lines. Readers who make inferences use the clues in the text to help them figure out what is not directly said, making the text personal and memorable. What can you infer from the picture?
- Why are all of these people on the boat?
- What has happened?
- How do they feel about it?
- How did they manage to get so much onto the boat (including a house!)?
- Where do you think this is? Why? [Link to Geography and current events]
- Why aren’t there any other boats?
- Where will they go?
- Who wrote the message in the bottle? What does it say?
