Today we went to the Ryedale Folk Museum for an evacuee day. A great time was had by all! The children found out about rationing and were able to sample some wartime cooking. They also went into the village shop with their ration books and, with an old penny, bought their sweet ration for the day. They also found out how important it was to ‘make do and mend’ and had a go at rag rugging. At lunchtime, our ARP (William) set off the air raid siren, it was quite scary!
We also had the opportunity to look around the rest of the museum, many of the children want to take their grown-ups for another visit.
Thanks to all of our fabulous helpers! You were amazing.
