We had a some very special visitors in school today to talk to us about saving lives. Matthew, Paul and Tim who are all paramedics (and Daddy’s of children in our school) came to teach us how to re-start a heart.
When we got into the hall there were lots of dummies laying on the floor. They looked a bit funny.
Matthew, Paul and Tim taught us how to recognise when someone is unresponsive.
Tim told us that if we shout into their ears and there is no response this is called being unresponsive.
We also learnt how to do chest compressions and where to place our hands.
We needed to press really hard on the dummies chests.
We even had a look at a Defibrillator and listenend carefully to the instructions it gave us.
The paramedics explained that although we are very young to be learning about saving lives, they believe that the sooner children are introduced to these skills and become familiar with the procedures and equipment, the better equipped they are, later in life, as it becomes second nature to them.
We certainly had a fantastic morning learning about restarting a heart.
Huge THANKYOU to Matthew, Paul and Tim!!!
