This afternoon the children put friction to the test and sent Santa on a journey down a ramp. He tested three different surfaces, smooth wood, rough wood and carpet to see which one caused the most friction.

First, the children made predictions, some of the children thought he would travel the quickest on the rough wood because houses have a rough roof and Santa travels fast over them. Some of the children thought smooth wood because cars travel fast on smooth roads so Santa must be able to travel quickly on smooth surfaces.

After putting Santa down the ramp the children found that the smooth wood caused the least amount of friction and so made Santa travel the quickest!
