This week, the children had a visit from the Co-op and they came to talk to the children about the importance of Fair Trade. We learnt that without Fair Trade, the farmers (who grow the produce) actually receive the smallest amount of money compared to the shops and the transport needed to get it to where it needs to be sold. The children agreed that this wasn’t fair and that everyone should get a fair deal so that they can live a good life. The visitors told us some interesting facts that 5 billion bananas are eaten each year in the UK and that if you joined them up, there would be enough bananas to go 200 times round the World and 12 times to the Moon. The children also had the opportunity to taste some Fair Trade chocolate and they had to guess the flavour.
