Today we learnt all about schools during the Victorian period.

Did you know that..?

  • In the Victorian period most of the teachers were actually men.
  • A Victorian timetable was based on the three ‘Rs’- Reading, Writing and Arithmetic.
  • Victorian teachers had canes which they used when children were naughty as a way of punishment.
  • A dunce hat was worn by children who needed discipline. They wore it in the classroom and faced the wall.
  • Class sizes were 40-60 children. The classrooms were actually big enough to hold 300 children.

The children thought it was amazing that schools in the past and schools today were so different.

Which school would you prefer to be part of?
