We made a giant iceberg! We froze water in balloons and a clear plastic bag overnight. Once frozen, they were removed and placed in a large container of water. The children predicted what would happen when the iceberg was placed into the water. They observed how the iceberg sat in the water and how it changed over time. We explored questions such as:
- What happens if you add salt to the iceberg?
- Why do you think there are air bubbles in your iceberg?
- Why do you think the ice moves as it melts?
- Which part melts more quickly – the part above or below the surface?
