We have been enjoying Cultures Week at school. Reception are learning about Chinese New Year. It is the Year of the Rat this year.
We listened to the Chinese New Year story about how all the animals couldn't decide who would be the one that the years would be named after. We found out that they all had a swimming race and the year would be named after the winner. The winner of the first race was the rat. He was a bit cheeky though as he rode on the Ox's back and jumped off just as the Ox was about to finish the race. They decided that all of the years would be named after each of the animals in the order that they came in the race. We really enjoyed this story and recreated it in our Small World area.
We had a go at using chopsticks to try some Chinese food. We tried noodles, rice and prawn crackers and worked very hard to eat them using our chopsticks. We enjoyed it so much that we wanted to eat our school dinner with chopsticks too.
Tomorrow we will be using the dragon that we have made in the Design Area to have a go at some dragon dancing.
