We have had a superb first week back at school! The children have worked incredibly hard and have been really engaged with our new topic @Darwin's Delights'. We had a visit from the Kirkleatham Owl Centre. We were able to look at and handle: a tawny owl, a royal python, a Tenrec, a tarantula and a duck. We found out all about each animal. We talked about which animals are warm-blooded and which are cold-blooded.
Did you know?
- Royal pythons only need to eat 4 times a year!
- The oldest spider was 44 years old!
- A Tenrec evolved to look like a hedgehog and comes from Madagascar. It eats worms and bugs and hibernates just like a hedgehog.
We also looked at dead animals so that we could talk about them and make comparisons. We looked at mice and baby mice, baby rats, pig’s ears, boar’s ears and throats. As well as having a visit from the Kirkleatham Owl Centre, the children also made fossils out of clay.
An excellent first week back - well done everyone!
