Although our focus this half term is on prehistoric times, it doesn't stop us being scientists too! This week, the children have enjoyed exploring how seeds disperse to ensure they have space to grow into new plants (thank you everyone who brought a wide variety of nuts, seeds and berries in for us to examine and discuss). Thank you also to Joseph for bringing in some barley. We have already discovered how hard it would have been to grind barley into flour using only stones. Now we are discovering how quickly the barley seeds (and wheatgrass) start to germinate - we only put it on damp tissue on Tuesday and by Thursday there were already signs of life! Isn't nature amazing?
Finally, today (Friday) we have had a go at building models of Stonehenge using classroom equipment - the children were very inventive and showed brilliant team work. They also explored light and shadow using their models to see how the ancients might have carefully designed their henges to align with the sun's movements. We also treated ourselves to some Stonehenge biscuits while we watched a film for our chosen Golden Time activity.
Well done everyone, we've had a lot of fun with our learning this week!
