This week we have continued learning all about mountains and the animals which had adapted in order to survive on these difficult terrains.

The children selected a different type of animal, from a Snow Leopard, Dall sheep, Yak, Pika, Himalayan Marmot, Guanaco or the Himalayan brown bear. They worked collaboratively to label the specific features and adaptations of each animal, then they recorded the location in which they are found, the habitat in which they live and the diet of each creature.

The children produced some fabulous fact sheets for each animal.

In English we read the story of ‘The great Kapok tree’ by Lynne Cherry. The children loved hearing the story of the huge tree living in the rainforest and of all the animals that lived with her. They listened intently to the story. After, we talked about why the rainforests are getting destroyed and how we can help protect them. As part of the learning, we selected some ‘RAG’ words from the text. These are words that the children may have heard but are unsure of their meaning. They used dictionaries to discover the meaning of each word and then challenged themselves to use them in their piece of writing.
