During today's topic lesson, we have used our investigative skills to make Icarus fly. The children read about the tale of Icarus in their reading comprehension lesson last week and heard how he flew to close too the sun and melted the wax on his wings.
Today the children were given, two straws, two pieces of card, 15 cms of tape and an image of Icarus, with their learning partner they had to design and create wings for Icarus. Then the children tested the wings to see which ones flew the furthest. It was clear that the best wings were those that were large in scale and had the straws used as feathers. This made Icarus fly a long distance. Those that had lots of tape and were heavy didn't fly as far!
