Today we had great fun getting creative and making our own earthquake proof buildings. The children were given a variety of materials and asked to create a building, which they felt could withstand an earthquake. The children enjoyed the challenge and quickly got to work in their team.

We had a variety of building styles, including, those on stilts, those low to the ground with a flat base and those that were tall, but included a mass damper inside. Once completed the children simulated an earthquake and tested their buildings. We discovered that those with a flat base, on stilts and strengthened using card withstood the movement of the 'earthquake' Those with a smaller rounder base were quick to fall over.

It was lovely to see everyone working together and having great fun!
