This week, we enjoyed a fantastic start to our new topic, Romans, by taking part in an online session with Durham University. We looked at maps of where the Romans had conquered and learned that names ending in 'chester' were once Roman settlements. The historian then explained how artefacts provide lots of clues and information about their lives at the time. After that, we looked at some Roman relics and used clues to work out what the objects could have been. I was amazed with the children's suggestions, one child even inferred that the 'brick like' arfefact was once part of Roman underfloor heating. A huge thank you to David and the historians at Durham University.
