I observed a lovely bit of teamwork today in the Outdoor Area.  The challenge was to build a track using the guttering pieces that would allow the duck to get from one end of the Water Area to the other.  The boys were quick to realize that if the pieces weren't laying together in just the right way the water wouldn't flow down the track.  "The next piece needs to go underneath" said J.  They also found ways of making the track stable by resting the pieces on the edges of the water trays and making sure the joins were supported.

We had a bit of a problem when one of the pieces was sticking up too much.  "The water can't go up" said J.  They solved this problem by finding something that they could place underneath the piece of guttering to lift it up.  The first thing they tried was a little stool but this was not high enough.  They then swapped it with a milk crate but discovered that 1 crate wasn't enough so placed 2 underneath.  This worked really well.

The boys were so excited when the ducks managed to get all the way to the end of the track.  They even made the track long enough to go all the way into the Nature Area.

Next time we will try and make our water travel in a zig-zag pattern and even round a corner.
