Today, we’ve learned about the Celts and their influence during the Iron age. The Celts were a group of people who lived in Europe during the Iron age. (800BC-AD)

The Iron age was a period of time when iron replaced the use of bronze when making tools, weapons, jewellery, plates and cups. As the Celts lived all over Europe their art work and carvings varied.  They would use the tri-spiral which was very important in Celtic art and is found on many pots, plates, swords, shields and jewellery. Celtic knots are created by endless circles and continuous design These are a mixture of straight lines and rounded edges. These are often found on Christian symbols, such as crosses.

The children used their observation skills in order to draw their own Celtic patterns, that included the Celtic knot and the tri-spiral designs.

We also had a fabulous time in the wildlife area for golden time. The children loved exploring the area, whittling and trying to make fire! The behaviour was outstanding. All the children worked together, were responsible and persevere when they found fire making very difficult! Well done everyone!
