To begin our new topic 'Frozen Kingdon', we made an iceberg! We froze water in containers overnight. Once frozen, they were removed and placed in a large container of water. The children predicted what would happen when the iceberg was placed into the water. They observed how the iceberg sat in the water and how it changed over time. We explored questions such as:
- What happens if you add salt to the iceberg?
- Do you think the ice will melt faster in warm water?
- What temperature does water freeze?
- Which part melts more quickly – the part above or below the surface?
- Why is the temperature of the water around the iceberg dropping?
The children were fascinated and we had brilliant discussions!
