During our ‘Street Detective’ topic this half term, we’ve been learning about our local community and how it has changed since our parents and grandparents were young.  We have been looking at old and modern houses as well as comparing how Great Ayton has grown and changed over the past 100 years.

The children have enjoyed looking at old photos to see how the streets and shops have changed.  We have also been developing our geography skills by reading ordnance survey maps to identify both human and physical features as well as use a compass to find locations of places.

To find out more about Roseberry Academy, we welcomed Mrs Murton to talk to us about what the school and site was like when she first started teaching at the school.  The children were amazed to discover that there used to be an outdoor swimming pool which the Year 6 children used to swim in!

Here are some of the highlights from our work this half term, well done children!
