Today, we have become environmental scientists, analysing the water and sediment samples we collected on Monday.  We used our observation skills to compare and contrast our sediment and soil samples with compost, finding them to be gritty compared with the fibrous compost.  We looked at the layers of sediment when the samples were shaken and settled, noting that the bigger stones settled on top of the finer silt.  We measured the pH of the water comparing it with tap water and vinegar, finding it to be slightly alkaline.  We then used "opalometers" to assess the clarity of the water.  We decided that the river water was just as clear as the tap water, just a yellowy-brown colour in contrast to the colourless tap water.  Finally, we calculated the speed of the water using the data we collected on Monday.
