Ophie brought a birds nest in to share with the class. We looked carefully at the different things that it was made from and how the twigs and grasses had been weaved together to make the nest shape. The children thought it was amazing and wanted to know how birds make their nests.
We watched a video of a weaver bird making its nest. It is so clever how they do it. We thought it would be really hard to do things without being able to use our hands.
We spent the afternoon finding natural materials outside to have a go at building some nests. We found dry grass, twigs, flowers, feathers and leaves. We made lots of beautiful homes for the toy birds to live in.
Some of us even had a go at weaving long flower stems and grass just like the weaver bird. This was very tricky.
