Our Hair Salon
We have had a new role play area in our classroom this week. The children were showing an interest in hairstyles and having a go at putting bobbles in each others hair. Mrs Ward brought in some curlers and rollers that she no longer needed and the children have loved pretending to…

A Musical Afternoon
What a wonderful musical afternoon we have had today. We found a nice shady spot and explored the different sounds of the instruments.
First, we closed our eyes and listened carefully to the sounds we could hear going on around us. We could hear children doing PE, the wind in the trees, cars driving up the drive, footsteps as people walked up the hill and birds tweeting.
We then had to find a musical instrument that sounded the same as the sounds we could hear.
After that we each choose an instrument and described the sound it made and thought of something it sounded like.
Our instruments sounded like …….
Ducks quacking
Snakes slithering in the grass
Thunder and Lightening
Rain
Father Christmas’ Reindeers
Tinkerbell the Fairy
Elephants stomping their feet
A woodpecker tapping the tree
In the Moment ' Crabs'
We were very lucky this morning as some children brought in some treasures that they had found at the beach.
We had crab body and a crab claw, some seaweed and some beautiful rocks.
We thought the crab was very smelly.
To explore crabs further we talked about different…
Somebody Swallowed Stanley
As part of our topic ‘Under the Sea’ we have read the story Somebody Swallowed Stanley by Sarah Roberts.
In this story a plastic bag is blown into the ocean and goes on a bit of journey meeting lots of different sea creatures.
The Jellyfish can’t work out what type of sea creature Stanley is.
Some of the creatures he met got into a little bit of difficulty as plastic bags are not supposed to be in the ocean.
Stanley ends up washed up on the beach and is found by a little boy who turns him into something useful. He turns him into a kite.
We used plastic bags to make our own Jellyfish in the Art & Design Area.
We cut the bags into long strips to use for the tentacles and stuck them to the inside of a bowl. Once the tentacles were dry we used smaller pieces of the plastic bag to cover the body and added eyes.
We love how long and colourful the tentacles are and we think they look amazing hanging in the corner of our classroom.
Under the Sea - Similarities & Differences
We have started a new topic all about ‘Under the Sea’.
To start off our topic we have been exploring
Similarities and Differences

Dogs Trust Visit
This morning we had a special visitor from the Dogs Trust who came to talk to us about how to stay safe around dogs we don't know. Max the dog was very friendly and cuddly. He taught us how to approach a dog we don't know and to always ask the owner first before we try to stroke their dog. Thank you for visiting us Max.
Jubilee Celebrations
We have had a lovely afternoon planting some flowers for the Jubilee.
Our first job was to fill our wheelbarrow with compost and then tip it into our planter. This was hard work and the compost was very smelly
We are all different, we are all special
This week we have been exploring our differences and talking about how we are all specialin our own way.
We shared books about diversity and we compared ourselves with eachother. We thought that if everybody looked the same and liked the same things, then it would be very boring.
We shared…

A Twist on a Traditional Tale
As an alternative to the traditional tale of The 3 Little Pigs we read The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig. We enjoyed the twist on this story with the pigs and the wolf swapping places. We liked trying to guess which tools the Big Bad Pig was going to use to knock down the wolves…
Iggy Peck Architect
We have been exploring the book Iggy Peck Architect by Andrea Beaty.
In the story Iggy Peck's teacher mentions Gothic and Romanesque buildings so we explored these words further and compared these 2 styles of architecture. We really liked the Gargoyles used as decorations on Gothic style…
