We have been exploring the book Iggy Peck Architect by Andrea Beaty.

In the story Iggy Peck's teacher mentions Gothic and Romanesque buildings so we explored these words further and compared these 2 styles of architecture.  We really liked the Gargoyles used as decorations on Gothic style buildings and had a go at drawing our own.

We used our perseverance and determination to try and build different structures using only toilet roll tubes and lollysticks.  This was very tricky but we worked out that if we used more than one lollystick for the tubes to balance on it make our structures stronger.

In the story Iggy Peck built towers and buildings using fruit.  We talked about why we thought this might not be a very good idea.  To find out what would happen to buildings made of fruit we had a go at building our own.  We built one using apples, one using tomatoes and one using bananas.  We thought the banana tower looked like the Leaning Tower of Pisa and we decided to call it the Leaning Tower of Bananas.  I wonder which tower will be the strongest and last the longest.

One of our favourite activities was building towers with real hammers and nails.  We listened carefully to the safety instructions so that we didn't hurt ourselves.  We found it hard work and our arms were aching when we were finished.

We can't wait to build a real wall next week using real bricks and cement.
