Today, we had lots of fun getting creative and making our own earthquake proof buildings. We used a variety of materials, such as paper, cardboard and sellotape to create a building which could withstand an earthquake.

Our type of building was selected at random. In our groups we either had a church, school, stadium or lighthouse. This presented us with an extra challenge, as we had to keep the building true to its traditional design. We recognised that some building types were more suited to certain earthquake proof measures, such as stilts, than others. Then, we simulated an earthquake to test our buildings. We discovered that those with a flat base, on stilts and strengthened using card withstood the movement of the 'earthquake' whereas those with a smaller rounder base were quick to fall over.

It was lovely to everyone communicating together and having great fun!
