Mrs Davies' Class 2019-2020

Topic homework has started to come in for our current topic 'Frozen Kingdom'. The quality of the work the children have produced at home is amazing! We have a mixture of models, artwork and experiments that all show the children's creativity. 

After learning about the Northern Lights, the children used chalk pastels to create their own silhouette pictures of the Northern Lights.

Today, the children got themselves into expedition groups with the challenge of constructing outdoor shelters and dens using materials such as rope, tarpaulins, plastic sheets and pegs. We talked about the idea that in order to stay warm, their shelter should be large enough for them to fit in,…

We made a giant iceberg! We froze water in balloons and a clear plastic bag overnight. Once frozen, they were removed and placed in a large container of water. The children predicted what would happen when the iceberg was placed into the water. They observed how the iceberg sat in the water and…

After our engage activity of looking at icebergs, the children learnt about the Inuit people and the different artwork that they produce. They then used the technique of printing to create the middle of their artwork and on Friday, they will paint the detail of the feathers.

Our igloo reading corner is complete! A huge thank you to all parents who brought in milk bottles so that this amazing space could be created and to Mr Murton for constructing it. The children have loved reading in this space today.

After learning about the life cycles of mini beasts, the children have been using various collage materials to create their own picture of the life cycle of a butterfly. They are coming together quite nicely and the children are looking forward to finishing them at the end of the week.
