This week the children have enjoyed learning all about the religion of Islam. They’ve focussed on the festival of Ramadan and Eid. We’ve produced some fabulous pieces of writing about the five pillars which, are the five key principles that all Muslims are obligated to fulfil in their lifetime.
The children gathered facts about the religious festival of Eid and Ramadan. They listened to Nahed, our school cook, who explained the meaning behind Ramadan and how the whole family enjoyed breaking the fast, with the celebration of Eid. She spoke to the children about the different foods they may eat and from this we made our own coconut bars which the children ate and loved!
We also created our own pieces of Islamic artwork. The geometric shape pictures were very tricky, we used a variety of mediums such as, felt tip, tissue and coloured paper to create the end product.
As part of the celebration of Eid, families decorate their homes. The children made their own lanterns, moon pictures and an Eid gift box, which children would take to their neighbours or families to collect their new money and sweets, which is given at the end of Ramadan.
All the children have loved learning about the Islamic religion and the Muslim culture.
