Following on from learning the names of major bones in our bodies, we have explored our joints. First, we tried to walk to assembly without bending our knees or elbows. We realised that drinking from our bottles would be impossible without our joints! We tried to count the number of bones in our own hands, not realising there were so many small carpals that allow our hands to bend and rotate in all directions. We learned the functions of tendons and ligaments. Finally, we constructed articulated models of our hands, thinking about the length of each bone and the difference between our thumbs and fingers. It was tricky, showing how cleverly our hands are designed to enable us to do this dexterous work!
