A wonderful day in Whitby!
Today, we all had a fabulous time visiting the lifeboat museum and the lifeboat house in Whitby.
The children enjoyed looking at all the old artifacts and old lifeboat in the museum. They loved learning facts about the boats and about the people who sailed in them.
Next, they went to see…
Critical thinking in the water area
We had some really super thinking skills on display in our outdoor water area. We were trying to get the ducks from the top water tray all the way to the bottom water tray.
First we needed to build a track using the drain pipe pieces.
This bit was quite tricky as they did not want to stay…
Wonderful Work!
The children have had another busy week. In Literacy, they have been writing a letter home as if they were the evacuee, Lenny, from our text ‘The Lion and the Unicorn’.
In Maths we are continuing our work on place value and Alex had a go at being me! I wonder if I should be worried!
As part…
The Great Outdoors
We had great fun building mini shelters in the wildlife area during Goldentime. The children had some great ideas for future weeks!
What a busy week!
What a busy week we’ve had! In Literacy, we used our RAG words, idiom of the week, and our grammar focus ‘apostrophes for possession’ to retell part of a story. We’ve also learnt how to use the highlighter pens to retrieve the answers to our comprehension questions.
In Maths, we continued to…
The Blitz!
As part of our topic, ‘Home front Heroes’ we’ve been creating pictures of The Blitz.
The children blended different colours of oil pastels to create their backgrounds and then used black paper to create the silhouettes in the foreground. Don’t they look effective?
Congratulations, Mrs Barker’s Class!
I was amazed today by how grown up the children in Mrs Barker’s Class can be. They came into whole school assembly for the very first time and were very brave and sensible. They sat smartly on their bottoms and listened very carefully. They clapped when we celebrated children’s achievements and…
Squiggle Whilst You Wiggle
We have really been enjoying our Squiggle whilst you Wiggle sessions. Each morning we get 2 flappers and hold them in a pincer grip (our hands make a duck’s beak shape). Then whilst the music is playing we make big and small movements with our arms and wrists to represent different letter…
Making circuits!
Today, we had to be investigators. Miss Burley set us a challenge – she wanted us to work with our learning partners and find out how to make an electric circuit and make the bulb light up. She made it very tricky for as she only gave us two wires, a light bulb and a battery!
It took us some…
Looking closely at numbers
We have started to look at numbers in lots of different ways.
We have learnt a ditty to help us remember how to form the numbers.
This is the ditty for the number 1.
We looked at what the numbers look like when written and what that number looks like in objects.
We explored the…
Science Experiment
The children have been working collaboratively to plan and carry out a fair test.
Their investigation question was: Does the size of a person’s hand change the amount of sweets they can successfully pick up?
The children designed different ways of conducting the experiment ensuring that it…
Sources of light!
Today, we looked at where light comes from. The children spent time discussing different types of light sources, from torches to the sun.
We found out that light can be found in many different places and that light is useful for us to see in the dark.
We also learnt that some light sources…
