Building a Bug House
Welly Wednesday
We have had a lovely afternoon finishing off our topic. We mixed together sand, cement and water to make a mixture to stick our bricks together. We took it in turns to place a brick down and used the cement to stick them together.
We have been busy builders!
In the Moment - Dressing Up
Someone donated a big box of dressing up clothes, so we have spent the week dressing up as different people.
We continued to show an interest in dressing up throughout the week, so we extended this further.
We followed our interests and made our very own talent show. We made a…
Sink or Float
Amora made a boat in the art and design area. She was super proud of herself. We decided to see if her boat would float or sink in our water tray. It floated!
We then placed other things into the water tray, to see if they would sink to the bottom or float.
If the children are still…
The Three Little Pigs
This week we have explored…
The Three Little Pigs
We have been reading the much-loved story ‘The Three Little Pigs’. The children spoke about houses made from different materials. We decided a house made from bricks is best, as it is strongest.
We made our own houses, made from…
Fun with Math
Today we played a game to recall our numbers. First, we rolled the dice. We then identified the number, by simply subitising, or by counting each dot on the dice.
After, we crossed off the number on our number board. This enabled us to match the dice to a written number. We had a…
Restaurants
Nevaeh brought in a notepad from home, and the children loved it. Lilly started to pretend she was a waiter, “What can I get you”, she said. Lilly shouted the order to her friends and they got busy making the food and drinks from playdough.
The children used some fantastic language…
Build It Up
Our new topic is called ‘Build it up’. This topic teaches children about the environments that they share with others, including their homes, school and places in the local community. Throughout we will learn about a variety of structures and materials.
To start off our topic, we thought…
Happy Helpers
When the children arrive at nursery on a morning, they usually find their name and place it on our name board. This allows the children to recognise their written name and use their fine motor skills to carefully stick it on the board.
This term we decided to change our board to,…
Easter Fun
The Everywhere Bear left us a letter this afternoon. He wanted to give us a really big thank you for taking such good care of him. To say thank you, he also left us a Easter egg treasure hunt. We read each clue which helped us to find the next one (and some chocolate eggs along the way).…
The Everywhere Bear
As part of our transport topic the children have been reading the story, The Everywhere Bear. The Everywhere Bear belongs to Class One and the children take it in turns to take him home for the weekend. Then one day, the beloved bear falls out of new boy Matt’s bag and a hazardous journey…
We're going on a vehicle hunt
On Wednesday we spent the afternoon walking around the village looking out for vehicles and road signs.
We found lots of road signs and ticked them off from our sheet. We also spotted a few vehicles.
When we arrived back at school we checked our sheet and talked about which vehicles…
Road Safety
We have had a special visit from our local Lolly Pop lady this week, and she explained why it is important to be safe while crossing the road. Afterwards, we went outside and pretended we were crossing a busy road. The Lolly pop Lady showed us what we should do, and…
