Year 1 2018 – 2019

Today we learnt all about why we have day and night!

This afternoon we enjoyed playing outside with all of the fabulous equipment RAFT have provided for us.

Today we have compared Great Ayton to Chembakolli in India.

We looked at videos and picture of the two places to see the similarities and differences between the two towns.

Today we became Victorian children at Ryedale Folk Museum. The children had a fabulous time completing their household chores, washing the clothes and they even had a lesson in a Victorian school!

Today we have been learning all about how Victorian homes differed. We looked at two types of home, rich and poor.

Poor house-

• The homes had no inside bathroom – Victorian people had to wash themselves in a metal bath. There was only enough water to fill the bath half full and everyone in…

We’ve come to the end of another term where I am immensely proud of each and every child in year 1. They’ve all worked so hard this term and made fabulous progress.

It’s lovely to see the children learning new things, developing their collaboration skills and helping each other on a daily…

Today the children enjoyed using the oil pastels to draw a portrait of Queen Victoria.

The children studied an original portrait, looked carefully at how the artist had used shading and certain colours to include detail to the portrait. Then they used this knowledge to recreate their own image…

In maths we used a variety of containers filled them up and decided if  it was full, half full or empty.

We worked with our learning partners, one of us filled the container and our partner had to use the correct vocabulary to describe it.

Today we had a long discussion about why we have a parliament and monarch and what we mean by civilisation.

The children enjoyed looking at images of the Houses of Parliament and learning about the MPs who work inside. We discussed Theresa May and her role in making decisions for our country…
